Fahrenheit 451

2/1/13

Author's Note: This will be my final piece for Fahrenheit 451. For this piece I wanted to write about something that was  important throughout the whole book. I think to really understand this book you need to think more about the type of government they are living in. In this case the type of government that Montag is living with is terrible. It strips a person of their personality and thoughts. I will be working on my introduction in this piece.

I watch from my window as the flames devour my neighbors yard. He was caught with a book. I don't understand why people would take the risk of your home or family burning just to read a silly old story. It's not realistic at all. I roll my eyes and return to my television set that covers most of the room. I turn it on and watch my "family" come to life in front of me. They're great company and almost always agree with whatever I have to say. Which is much better then talking with people out there and getting different ideas. No, I'd rather just stick to what I think. We start to make conversation and I bring up the subject of books . They ignore it as if they didn't hear me. I ask again but they don't turn my way, they keep talking as they flicker from static.

You have a right to think for yourself.  Why would the government think that it is okay to take that right away? They would make up excuses and tell you that it's for the best, but the truth is that they are scared. Sacred because your ideas could hurt their reputation and control. They make you believe that  yours and other peoples thought are dangerous. Books are the main source of thoughts and concepts, so their solution is to ban them all. A few people are smarter than that. They start to see why the government makes certain laws. Some of them are brave and try to fight, and others stay quiet and try not to direct attention to themselves

Getting ideas or guidance from other people is not always bad, but without thinking for yourself you really aren't living. It's your life and you need to make the decisions. Life is the best gift that there is, and to waste it by listening to other people all the time is terrible. Montag finally realizes that he is being controlled and he needs to do something about it. There was one question was circling around his head: Am I happy? The truth was that he wasn't, he was living a depressing life. The best chose that he made was taking his life back. He started his own personal revolution against the whole town. By the end of the book he was started to see who he was and his importance in life.

Don't let other people step on you. Take control of your own life because it's the only one that you have.  Spend it doing the things that are important to you. Stand up for what you believe in and that action. Montag realizes what he has to do to live a happy life. Will you?

Author's Note: I wrote this piece this piece because I think that how you use technology is important. I thought that it was very interesting that Mildred could use her earphones and 3-walled TV set to ignore her husband and her life. In this piece I am working on sentence fluency.

I read a book as my friend lays on the bed listening to music. Her lips move as she sings along with the singer. Her feet tap with the beat of the drum. Her mother kicked her out of the house again. She won't talk to me about it. She just sits there with her ear buds in and ignores the world. I get up and shake her arm. She doesn't open her eyes, just waves her hand as if to say leave me alone. I try again and get the same response. I roll my eyes and decide to write her a note. In the note it states that I will be going out and hopefully be doing something more fun than watching her ignore me. I almost want to try getting her attention again but it's not worth the effort. I open the door and leave without looking back.

Technology removes us from the real world. It's a way to escape your life and the problems in it. It distracts us from what we should be doing as people. As time goes on we should become more aware of this, otherwise we will lose sight of what's necessary and important. Not all technology is bad, but like most things in life; it depends on how you use them. Technology has come a long way, but is it a good thing?

Technology can be used in a sacred way. For example, technology has been a great resource for hospitals. Many machines are responsible for saving peoples' lives. This type of technology is good because it protects something important- your health. Another example is using technology for education. Education has grown in many ways because we can learn new things with technology. The problem is when people us technology to an extreme and get lost in whatever they're doing.

To use technology in a profane way is abusing it, such as watching TV for hours on end. A little TV is not bad, but a lot can take you away from real life. It lets you be a different person for about 30 minutes, but is it worth it knowing that life is the most important gift, and that you are ignoring this gift? Another example is video games. They make you believe that you are the character, and even when your not playing you're talking about the games to your friends. Whether it's a new level or character we think that it is the most important thing to talk about.

We be aware of what technology can do. We should be aware of the consequences that it posses. As long as we understand that we can use respectively and use it for necessities. It's not worth forgetting yourself and the people that care about you.

Author's Note: I started reading Fahrenheit 451 with Kiley and Mr. Johnson. Clarisse and Mildred are very different. Clarisse is pure happy where as Mildred is depressed and dark. Mildred is Montag's wife but he seems to be enjoying his time more with Clarisse. In this piece I will be talking more about the differences between Clarisse and Mildred.

I have been living my life without even thinking about it. My wife and I exchange a few words a day after work and then off to bed. Our relationship has not been the same. I walk down the sidewalk with my head down, by myself. I then run into someone. I look up, about to offer my apologies when I see her smile. She tells me her name as I give her mine. She then says she must be going. She walks past me and I find my self watching her as she goes. She must be new around here. No one smiled when they talked to me, she was different.

Montag has to chose between someone that is sacred to him and someone that is profane to him. He has been with his wife for a while now and he never knew that there was another option. He finds himself thinking more and more about Clarisse and less about Mildred. Every time he comes home to Mildred he feels more depressed and a different person. I think that in the end it will be about choosing the person that he wants to be.

In life you should be able to find someone that you are happy with. Not someone that you think you need to be with. This person should bring out the best in you, and help you think about life in different ways.  Clarisse is helping him be a different person, someone that he is proud and happy to be. I think that in the end he will chose Clarisse to be with.
